My Fish & Chips Afterwards Were Alright, Though

I hit a 99 at Parkview’s Upper Course today. I remain unamused.

I also failed to have a good time playing, which pretty much never happens. I had very high hopes of breaking 90 today, and it didn’t happen, and I allowed that to disturb me [my apologies to Kevin for giving off the "negative energy" - an applicable, correctly-assessed state of mind today]. What happened was that Dennis was there but got sick in the parking lot and left, which meant that Kevin and I were paired with two other gentlemen. Stephen and Morgan were nice, courteous guys who understood golf etiquette, but I never play well when playing with people I don’t know. I’m instantly self-conscious, and the little foibles of the newcomers distract me, like squeaky golf carts and whatnot. It’s not them, it’s me: if Dennis’ pull cart was squeaking, I wouldn’t even notice it… and if I did notice it, I wouldn’t care. I left a lot of shots out there today that I shouldn’t have if I’d just focused.

This round is my 5th of the year as far as the RCGA is concerned, and therefore my handicap can now be confirmed. Here’s the painful breakdown:

RCGA HANDICAP FACTOR CALCULATION

You have 5 scores available. Each score produces a differential which is calculated as follows: (Score – Rating) x 113 / Slope.
Date Score Rating Slope Diff Course/Tee Score Type
2 5/6/2007 97 69.5 123 25.3 Wooden Sticks Golf Club I
Score Types: T – Tournament; I – Internet; P – Penalty; C – Combined Nines

Sum of all differentials: 25.3
Average based on 1 differentials: 25.300
Average multiplied by .96: 24.288
Delete all digits after tenths: 24.2
RCGA Handicap Factor: 24.2

OWW. 24.2, kids. Yeesh. We return tomorro, though, so there’s always hope.

Wooden Sticks…or How the BC didn’t get his ass handed to him

Played Wooden Sticks last Sunday. Bought a Spring special, that gave us, for 140$, a very nice windshirt of our choosing, two meals, fully stocked cart, the range and a CPGA pro to help us, and the round of golf. So, I figure, the round cost us about 50 bucks. Not too bad for such a nice, playable course.

the BC’s main worry about the day, if indeed he had one, was that he was going to have his ass handed to him. Well GOLF fans, he didn’t. In fact, he and Amir the Dromodir played quite well. That picture you can see on the main page of Amir swinging was on number 4 (Augusta #12) and the shot was a nice layup to the Par 5 resulting I believe in a Par. But I get ahead of myself.

Had a little frost delay at the start of the day, about 30 minutes, but hey, when the starter tells you that the round is playing 5 hours, meaning, have fun, don’t rush overly and enjoy the day, 30 minutes isn’t anything to bitch about.

To give you some background on the course, Woooden Sticks is owned by Gary Roberts of NHL fame and others, and is up in the beautiful town of Uxbridge. They have created a course that has 9 replica holes and nine originals. I happen to like the originals better, but for most of us, myself included, the nine replica holes may be the closeset we will ever get to those courses, so hey, play and enjoy! Valleywoods Cup Returns

The Valleywoods Cup came into play for the first time this year, as defending champion Dennis Davis brought the coveted cup to Seaton GC. The game? Most improved score after last week. With BC hitting a 100, Boom-Boom hitting an 83 and Texas hitting a 107, no one improved their scores at all… and thus the champion retains. Den’s addition to the Cup? Astroturf at the golfer’s feet. Nice!

Tomorrow’s course is Wooden Sticks, which I’m really looking forward to. It’s going to hand me my ass, but I’m going to let that go and just have a blast. I’ll be joined by Boomer, Lukey “Aces” Israel and Amir “The Dromodir” Rahmani. We got a great deal there from the Golf Show, by the way: two meals [breakfast and lunch], cart, a Wooden Sticks wind shirt and a round for $140. Not bad! An “Ontario Golf Course Rating” and some “Croucher’s Local Knowledge” to follow, kids.

Avoid the clap,
